March 16, 2023
Dear Janer Families,
FREE CASUAL DAY MARCH 17, 2023
Spring is only 4 days away! The next 10 days looks snow-free! With that being said, we have two snow days to use. One will be used on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 which is the Tuesday after Easter. School will be closed. In addition, we are taking off on Friday, May 19, 2023. Please mark your calendars.
-
Spring Pictures for Grades PreK to 7th will be held on Thursday, March 28, 2023 in the gym.
-
8th Grade Graduation pictures will be taken on Thursday, March 28, 2023 in the gym as well. The pictures will be in graduation gowns only for 8th graders. We will supply the graduation gowns. Reminders for our 8th grade graduation pictures:
-
Boys need to wear a collared shirt with a tie.
-
Girls may wear appropriate clothes that would be worn under the graduation gowns.
-
Hair should be neat and appropriate for graduation pictures.
-
Please note: We know this is a delicate subject, but we have noticed many of our young gentlemen are starting to have facial hair, please note boys may not have facial hair per our handbook. Please groom appropriately.
IMPORTANT: From the handbook: Both boys’ and girls’ hair must be neat, clean, and out of their eyes. Boys’ hair cannot reach the shirt collar. Students may not have extreme hair fads or styles. Students may not alter natural hair color. Boys may NOT have facial hair.
Renewal (re-enrollment) for 2023-2024
We have 35 registered Kindergartners so far! We haven’t seen such numbers in a few years! So exciting! It would be very helpful if you haven’t already completed the enrollment process. I’m going in every day to import and finish each student. Our preschool is about ½ full already, so that’s great news too. Remember, 6th grade always gets a huge influx of students before students head over to middle school. Don’t delay and complete your reenrollment today! NOTE: If you are a current student, you just need to complete the re-enrollment packet. Once that is complete, I have been going into the system (almost daily), importing the info and finishing your re-enrollment. Let me know if you have any questions. I will do my best to get back to you soon.
New Students for 2023-2024
For NEW students, including Preschool and Kindergarteners for 2023-2024 or any other grade, you will need to go through the inquiry/application process from our website. Create an account and once you go through the process, I will accept the applications, and merge with existing students (if necessary). We have completely streamlined the process online. If you run into any issues, please do not hesitate to contact me and I will assist you (mostly likely after 2:30 p.m.).
Financial Aid 2023-2024
Please see attached sheet on steps to apply for financial aid. Families who are active members of St. Jane Parish may apply. Not everyone who applies will be granted financial assistance. If you are an active member of a different church, please contact your pastor for assistance.

(If you forgot to send in your stamps, please send them in as soon as possible.)

Dear Janer Families,
Mrs. Korp is home! You can send her a card and well wishes to 3328 Kaywood Drive, Easton, PA 18045. She’s doing much better and we are very grateful for all the prayers. She still needs time to recuperate, but hopefully we will see her soon.
Pray, Fast, and Give Through Operation Rice Bowl This Lent
Operation Rice Bowl, an annual giving program that began in the Diocese of Allentown 48 years ago, is a great way to answer the Church’s call for almsgiving during Lent. Operation Rice Bowl has grown into a national and international effort that combines prayer, fasting and almsgiving to help those in need in our Diocese, and around the world. The way it works is simple: Families eat a simple meal one day a week, and give the money they would have spent on a more elaborate meal to Operation Rice Bowl. One-quarter of the funds remain in the Diocese to help those in need locally, and the balance is contributed to hunger relief efforts nationwide and in 100 countries around the world, distributed by Catholic Relief Services. During Lent, Catholics are called to prayer, to fasting, and to almsgiving, which means donating money or goods to the poor and performing other acts of charity. Operation Rice Bowl is an ideal way to help fulfill this calling. Each child received a rice bowl. They can make small sacrifices and add money and we will collect their almsgiving the week of April 3, 2023 and we will combine our donations with the parish. Thank you so much.

Please make sure you are on-time for pick-ups and understand with a crowd this large, the teacher volunteers and I will be doing a lot of supervising to ensure safety for all!
Rehearsal Schedule: Reminder. Please wait outside of the main entrance. We will bring your children out to you. Thank you for your cooperation.

Sing for America - Madagascar - A Musical Adventure!
This will be our third time working with the Gilberts and Sing for America. In 2020, after a short week’s time we put on the Lion King production which was truly amazing. Last year, we worked hard all week and put on Seussical the Musical which was also fantastic. Each time nearly 70 plus students (Kindergarten to 8) worked hard and performed beautifully. As a principal it brings such joy to my heart to see our students shine in this way! This year – the production will be Madagascar - A Musical Adventure. In a short week, we will learn lines, songs, dances and create beautiful sets! Everyone is encouraged to participate! It’s always such a fun week.
I have attached information to this communication. But, due to some conflicts on both ends, dates have been changed. Additional rehearsal information will be sent once we have a firm number of students participating. Living Stations and PJAS will not conflict with the production. The Gilberts will be here on Tuesday, February 14, 2023 to present all the information to our classrooms (beginning at 12:00 noon) and sign-ups will take place on

Happy Groundhog’s Day! (6 More Weeks of Winter, so the Groundhog says!)
Dear Janer Families,
Continued prayers for Mrs. Korp. She is back in the hospital and will need extra prayers tomorrow as she will be having surgery. She appreciates everyone’s well wishes and feels all your prayers.
Mr. McGarvey Update.
He had a PET scan last Thursday and the oncologist said that the scan was the best outcome he had hoped for and he is in REMISSION! His journey, however, is not yet over. Remission does not mean cure. The type of lymphoma he has needs to be treated aggressively to lessen the chances of the lymphoma returning. He began his 5th cycle of chemo on Monday and the 6th and final cycle in three weeks. His body continues to tolerate the treatment well. He wants us all to know that this is a reminder to stay as healthy as possible by staying physically active, eating a healthy diet and having a positive mental outlook no matter what your age is. He thanks us all for your prayers and support and he asks that we continue those powerful prayers throughout the remainder of his journey. “I Got This!” ~ Mr. McGarvey
Catholic Schools Week Recap!
The. Best. Week. Ever. Thank you to everyone who assisted, attended, participated, cooked, baked and contributed to our festivities in any way! Thank you for all the donations for the St. Vincent de Paul Food Bank and the snacks for our bus drivers, first responders and healthcare workers. We cannot thank you enough for your generosity. Thank you to this amazing faculty and staff who work tirelessly to make it all happen! We are such a blessed community of faith and families!
Renewal (re-enrollment) for 2023-2024
With the absence of Mrs. Korp, I have attempted to continue to keep up with tuition and the preparation for the next school year. This week, we “renewed” everyone’s place here at St. Jane School in preschool through 7th grade (promoted to next grade for 2023-2024). You should’ve been notified to complete your re-enrollment packet in the family portal. I know initially there was a glitch, but after a quick call to FACTS, I believe it was up and working. Let me know if I can assist in any way.
New Students for 2023-2024
For NEW students, including Preschool/Kindergarteners for 2023-2024 or any other grade, you will need to go through the inquiry/application process from our website. Dear Janer Families,
I enjoyed our unexpected snow day yesterday. Let’s see if we can make it through Catholic Schools Week without another snow day…I finally got the progress reports out. Only grades 1 through 8 received progress reports today. The 1st grade received them twice because I couldn't remember if I did it or not, so I apologize for that.
We had our first accident today between a bus and a car pulling out after dropping off – damage was minor (but probably will be expensive) and no one was hurt, but lesson learned here, you must look in the lane of traffic before you pull your car out into Washington Blvd. The buses want to cut into the sidewalk right at our driveway by the playground. This car wasn’t even that far from the stop sign before the collision occurred. REMINDER: On AM drop off – as soon as your car stops, please have your child exit the car – only if assistance is needed should you stop at the stop sign. Make sure you check the traffic before you move forward. Thank you.
Important Update - due to unforeseen circumstances, we are postponing the AAA Family Movie Night on Friday, January 27, 2023. Look for a new date soon.
Heritage Day - Only 3 countries are represented so far - Lebanon, Ireland and Germany. Thank you to the Attalah and Deemer families! I was hoping all families would participate. Please try to create your native country’s flag and bring it in by Tuesday, January 31, 2023. Flyer attached.
Help the Hungry and the Homeless - donations are way down. If you can help, your donations will be greatly appreciated. Flyer attached.
Baskets for First Responders - please consider donating packaged snacks for those who protect our school every day. Flyer attached.

Dear Janer Families,
We did it! We made it to day 90! Halfway through the school year and no snow in sight! BUT Catholic Schools Week is around the corner…so we all know what that means. Today also marks the middle of the 2nd trimester. Hopefully you have a chance to check grades in the FACTS system to make sure your child is current with all their work. I asked the teachers to make sure all grades are updated this weekend, and I will email everyone the progress reports on Monday. Any issues, please contact your child’s teacher directly. They can best address any deficiencies, missing work or behavior problems. Hopefully, everyone can stay on track for the 2nd half of the year!
Staff Updates
Mrs. Korp is home and resting! She thanks everyone for all the prayers and well wishes. Mrs. Pacchioli is also doing well with her rehabilitation from knee surgery! Blessings all around! Mr. McGarvey finished his 4th round (the oncologist upped the dosage) of chemo last Friday. Only two more to go. He is still feeling great, walking twice a day or biking with this milder weather (which is anything over 40 degrees). Blood work came back today very good. PET Scan is January 26 which will tell how the treatment is working. Both his oncologist and he are very positive for a good result. He misses us all!
Please continue to pray for members of several families in our Janer community that are very ill. They need our prayers! Thank you.

Dear Janer Families,
Better but much busier week! Wifi up and running for now. Still waiting for the new router, but the temporary router is doing what we need! Mrs. Korp is still in the hospital but is doing much better. Hopefully, she will be home soon where she can get some real rest and healing. I am able to process tuition (and past due tuition) payments. So please make sure you are up to date. Next payment is 1/20/2023. Mrs. Pacchioli is doing well, she thanks everyone for their prayers.
Important Paperwork from the Diocese of Allentown
The Diocese of Allentown is requesting that all staff and volunteers sign the new policies attached. Please use the 2022 Code of Conduct, 2022 Sexual Abuse, and the 2022 SMEC designations (all attached). Even if you think you signed them before, we need new signatures with a 2023 date. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Catholic School Week!
Our annual week-long celebration of Catholic Schools Week begins officially on Sunday, January 29, 2023. Our kick off begins at the 10:00 a.m. Mass where students will be greeters, altar servers, lectors and members of the choir! Students are encouraged to wear their uniforms to earn a Janer ticket. Follow Mass is Open House, Scholastic Book Fair and Band Concert. There are many activities happening this week. Please see the attached schedule and flyers for the many events happening! More information will be coming.
Most importantly, I would like everyone to create an 8 ½ x 11 poster of their heritage. It should include your nationality flag, national foods, pictures, even pictures of your country. Don’t be afraid to be creative! Just stick to a sheet of paper! We will be displaying these posters in the cafeteria and will be having a Multicultural PotLuck Celebration on Wednesday, February 1, 2023 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. There will be a registration form coming soon for signing up with your appetizer, main course and/or dessert. We are all very excited about this event. Save the date!

Flex Days
As predicted, Easton Area School District decided on a virtual day and no Non-Public school Transportation on Thursday, December 15, 2022. Many other districts followed suit and would not have provided us with transportation. This is one of the many reasons the Pennsylvania Department of Education has allowed schools to prepare for flex days.
I want to inform you that the teachers work extra hard to provide your child with meaningful assignments that reinforce, maintain or review the work we are doing in school and allow our students to have a day, or in some cases two or three days, to complete their school work. I’m not sure if you are surprised, but we are still chasing down this work from our students…6 days post-flex day.
IF the student has not handed in the work by tomorrow morning (and I am being extremely generous at this point), they will be marked with an unexcused absence (as stated in the policy) and any graded work will be marked as a zero.
I am attaching the application I prepared and that was approved by the state. It is clear, work needs to be completed and handed in. I heard a few complaints that it was too much work, but when we make the assignments, we are planning for the average student in a certain grade. If it is taking your child longer than that, we may need to meet to see if there are any academic issues that need to be addressed or accommodations that need to be made.
We have four more flex days and three snow days…
Website
I am still having Website issues. Some are no longer having issues from their homes. But at school I’m still trying to work with everyone to get it fixed. Thank you again for your patience and understanding.

December 15, 2022
Dear Janer Families,
I cannot believe that Christmas is next weekend and we only have 6 more days of school left in 2022! As I reflect on the year 2022, I am most grateful for the support of faculty, staff, parents and students. I say it all the time, but we are all very blessed to have one another. Catholic education is a wonderful gift, one that my parents gave me, and one that I gave my own children. Your sacrifices to send your children to our school are exemplary. The investment you have made in Catholic education will be paying dividends for the rest of your life. Thank you for all you do for our school and Catholic education. We are blessed!
Predicted Bad Weather
Bad weather is predicted for tomorrow and Friday. Please make sure your family has a plan in place in case of early dismissal. Please make sure you check WFMZ for updates (you can sign up and get automatic text updates.) I will also send an email and make a phone call from the parent alert system. I have attached the Inclement Weather Policies for your convenience. Note: We follow Easton Area School District when it comes to delays and closures.
It is important to mention, that since COVID, we have NOT seen many delays, rather Easton calling for virtual days for their students, and no busing for non-public schools (like us). Therefore, we may take a flexible instructional day if that occurs this week. We were allowed 5 Flexible Instruction Days and 3 snow days. Personally, I’d like to save the snow days for a day when the kids can go out and have fun in the snow. Stay tuned! (Please review the Flexible Instruction Days application that was approved by the Diocese.)

Dear Janer Families,
Update on Mr. McGarvey
Mr. McGarvey is home resting in between treatments. He is doing great! He feels our prayers and loves the cards. If anyone would like to send a card directly, please send to:
Mr. Charles McGarvey
314 Meadow Lane
Whitehall, PA 18052
The cards and letters from our current and former students are really brightening his days!
Don’t forget - Friday, 12/9 will be the LLS Casual Day for Team Decker and a bake sale for Mr. McGarvey.
November is Outreach Month at St. Jane School!
We have several outreach activities planned for November, we appreciate your support:
-
Project Hope - For the 34th year, Project Hope will provide an Annual celebration for people in need in our city of Easton. Last year over 700 people attended!! This relies entirely on donations and volunteers! St Jane School has decided to partner with this organization for our November Community Outreach!
The event will take place December 11. Our Lady of Lebanon Church graciously opens their doors to allow Project Hope to use their facility. Volunteers prepare a complete holiday dinner, wrap and distribute new gifts to each child age newborn to 16, and to the senior citizens who attend. Each family receives a grocery bag of food along with other essentials.
WHAT IS NEEDED:
-gently used coats for both genders of every size
-toiletry items for adults
-new adult winter gloves and socks
-non perishable food items
-monetary donations
PLEASE bring in donations starting now until the day before Thanksgiving. For any questions, please contact Mrs Pretopapa in K-2. [email protected]
Thank you so much for your support! Let us show thanks for all our many blessings, by helping those in our community who could really use our support!
-
Toys for Tots - We have begun our collection of unwrapped toys for the U.S. Marine Corps - Toys for Tots Campaign here in Easton. If you send in an unwrapped toy, have your child stop in the office, Mrs. Korp has a small thank you from the Marine Corp to share. We will accept new unwrapped toys and unused toys (no stuffed animals) now through December 15th. Thank you again for your generosity to this wonderful organization.
-
LLS/Team Decker Casual Day and Bake Sale for Mr. McGarvey
Team Decker has raised over $122,000.00 for blood cancer patients in the Lehigh Valley. There is a list of 140 people alive and deceased who Team Decker honors every year at the races in Disney. This year, Mr. McGarvey will be added to the list of honorees. The money raised assists The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's funding of the breakthrough development of therapies that have already saved and continues to save thousands of lives.
I am attaching Team Decker's donation website, https://pages.lls.org/tnt/lv/wdw23/TeamDecker for anyone who would like to make a donation outside the dress down day.
On Friday, December 9, 2022, we will support The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and Team Decker (Coach Dr. Gene Decker is our Track and Cross Country Coach) in raising funds to hit Team Decker’s goal of $25,000. St. Jane School’s National Junior Honor Society will be sponsoring a Casual Day and bake sale to raise money for this worthy cause and will be keeping Mr. McGarvey at the forefront of our fundraising efforts.

Check out our Facebook page – we have an awesome reward for our students – The Janer Diner – for 10 tickets, you can eat in our booth and listen to music. 3 to 5 friends can also join the student for 10 tickets each. It’s been a big hit with my 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students. I’m booked through the middle of December!!
Lunch Monitors
We are always happy to have lunch monitors. Through our PBIS program the students are well-behaved and respectful. We ask that the lunch monitors assist with student spills, opening of packages, cleaning tables and sweeping in between and the end of the lunch periods. I am present every day for all discipline issues, which have been few and far between. We are in need of 3 monitors daily. Please consider signing up for a day or two!

Dear Janer Families,
Unfortunately, due to the current forecast for tomorrow afternoon, Wilson Borough has canceled the Veterans’ Day Parade. We are all very sad as it is the highlight for all of us each November. We will have our scheduled Prayer Service at 8:15 a.m. (If there are any Veterans in the Janer family, please join us at 8:15 a.m. it will be approximately 20 minutes in length.)
Update on Mr. McGarvey
Mr. McGarvey started his first round of treatments on Tuesday, November 8, 2022. He had a common reaction the first time the chemo drug entered his body, but today, it was reported he was doing 20 minutes of laps around Cedar Crest Hospital, the nurses were looking for cones to section him off from the slower patients trying to exercise. He will remain in the hospital until Sunday and home for two weeks. He said he’s still feeling good. Last week, we mailed a package of cards from our students, which arrived yesterday. He said they gave him a much needed boost. He was so touched by all the well wishes from our students. He was especially touched that he received a bunch of cards from our Alumni at Notre Dame High School. He misses us all very much and appreciates all the prayers coming his way. Don’t forget - Friday, 12/9 will be the LLS Casual Day for Team Decker and a bake sale for Mr. McGarvey.

Dear Janer Families,
This is one of the best week’s of the year! Tuesday, November 1, 2022, as a school community, we celebrated All Saints Day with the parade of Saints from our 4th grade! Monsignor and I both share our pride and deep faith on this day as we celebrate all those Saints that enrich our Church. It was a beautiful Mass. Thank you to the many families that attended Mass with us. It was such a blessing to see so many of our families at Mass.
Wednesday, November 2, 2022, another favorite Holy Day - All Souls Day – We pray for our deceased loved ones and honor their memory. This year, Senora Acuna created a beautiful altar in honor of the Holy Day Dia de los Muertos. Many of our students brought pictures of beloved family members and beloved pets to be honored and remembered. Students brought their pictures to lunch and some shared stories of their loved ones. We have such beautiful children that share so much of themselves with me…I am a very blessed principal and I am thankful for each and everyone of you. In this season of thankfulness, I am very thankful for the faculty, staff, priests and families of St. Jane School.

Dear Janer Families,
Beginning tomorrow, October 28th, and continuing on October 29th and 30th, St. Jane parish will celebrate its annual Forty Hours Celebration. This is an extended period of Eucharistic Adoration to be celebrated on those three days during the daytime hours. The Blessed Sacrament will be exposed on the altar for the private adoration of the faithful on the Friday between the 8:15 Mass and 7:00 PM. Our 2nd through 8th graders will take turns in shifts during that time for prayer and adoration at the church. On Saturday, October 29th, the Eucharist will be exposed between 9:00 AM and 4:45 PM. Finally on Sunday, October 30th, there will be an exposition following the noon Mass until the solemn closing at 4 PM. This Solemn Closing – on Sunday, October 30th at 4 PM will be an opportunity for our parish to come together to express our faith in the Lord who is truly present, body and blood, soul and divinity, in the most wondrous Sacrament of the Altar. We will come together in song and prayer to celebrate with ceremony our Eucharistic faith and devotion. Please plan on being present to honor our Lord in this annual devotion! The homily for our solemn closing this year will be Father Mark Searles. Father Mark, who is a son of St. Jane Parish and an alum of our school, presently serves as the director of vocations for the Diocese of Allentown and as Catholic Chaplain at Lehigh University. He will be joined by many of the priests of the area, some of whom have previously served at St. Jane. This is a beautiful way of coming together to honor Our Eucharistic Lord as the center of our parish community and the center of our lives! - Please consider spending an hour with our Lord as He invites you to a closer walk with Him. Sign up sheets are available in the gathering space.
Asbestos Notification
In compliance with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA) an inspection for asbestos containing building materials was performed at each of our schools within the Diocese of Allentown. A copy of the inspection reports are on file in each school’s office for your review any time during normal business hours. In the event you have any questions or concerns, please contact me or Mr. Whirl. Thank you.

Philly Pretzel Factory pretzels ($1 each) will be distributed at morning snack on select Fridays each month for the remainder of the year. Upcoming Pretzel Days include November 18th and December 16th. Dates for 2023 will be announced.
If you’d like to participate, please send $7 (cash or check made payable to the St. Jane’s HSA) along with your completed order form to Kristen Bruneo c/o Vinnie Bruneo (1A) no later than Friday, November 11, 2022. Late orders CANNOT be accepted as we must adhere to the deadline for providing the Philly Pretzel Factory with our final order (we are talking hundreds of pretzels!).

Dear Janer Families,
Tomorrow, twenty-three 8th graders, Mr. Dicker, Mrs. Darno and I will be attending the Allentown Diocesan Pilgrimage to the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C. In Scripture and throughout Church history, pilgrimages have been a significant part of the life of the faithful. Bishop Schlert will lead us in this graced time of devotion and evangelization. This year we are celebrating the 60th Year Anniversary of the founding of our Diocese. A highlight of the Pilgrimage will be the Veneration of the Relic of Blessed Carlo Acutis. We will be offering up prayers for our St. Jane Community. Please keep all of us in your prayers as we travel to and from Washington, D.C. tomorrow.
Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports Update
Our students’ behaviors in hallways, bathrooms, and dismissal are doing great. We are still working on some behaviors at lunch (talking at level 2 vs. shouting and being quiet at the dismissal and lunch for prayers), but I am hopeful! Redemption of Ticket Day is every Wednesday in the cafeteria. Currently, your child can redeem 10 tickets for a NUT (no uniform today) pass for Thursday, October 27, 2022. (Only one pass per child and can only be used on Thursday, October 27, 2022.)

Dear Janer Families,
I have to say that this is my most favorite time of the year. I love summer, of course, but I cannot stand the humidity (it’s terrible for my hair, LOL). The cool autumn mornings, the changing of the leaves, wearing light jackets…it’s just so refreshing. I just wanted to share how much I love this time of year and how much I enjoy your children too, they are a breath of fresh air as well. They are such a blessing. We are really having a great time at St. Jane School daily! Please read this entire newsletter and review all the attachments, there may be something important for you! I don’t want you to miss it! Have a great rest of the week!

Dear Janer Families,
Everyone is settling into the school year nicely. As a reminder, please try to have your child in school and on-time daily. It is essential for your child to have the routines that we have in place, not interrupted with absences and tardiness. Please reach out if you are having issues with your child attending school on a regular and timely basis. We have a school counselor here once a week that can meet with your child/ren and formulate strategies that can be helpful for your child.
IMPORTANT: Title I Survey
St. Jane Frances de Chantal School participates in several Federal programs that provide your children with a variety of materials and services. It is one of the few ways in which they receive benefits from your tax dollars and we certainly don't want to lose this benefit. Please complete the attached survey and simply answer Yes or No to the questions. This information is very important for us to continue receiving support from these programs. It is required before we can participate in Federal programs (such as discounted internet services (e-rate), speech, ESL, remediation, OT/PT services, etc.). All information will be kept in confidence. A hard copy was sent home on Monday with your child. I am attaching a copy with this newsletter.
****Please return the form by Friday, September 23, 2022.****
Don't hesitate to call me if you have any questions about the survey.

Happy Birthday to our Blessed Mother Mary
Dear Janer Family,

Contact details taken from FACTS will include parent name, student name, student grade, home address, email address, and phone number. For consistency purposes, we will include all details mentioned above or none if that is your preference. If you do NOT want your information to be included in the virtual Directory, please email Krissa Falcone at [email protected] by September 14, 2022.
St. Jane's HSA
You are invited to join us for our first HSA open house meeting on Wednesday, September 21, 2022. It will be our first meeting in-person since before COVID! Come learn about our RaiseRight App (online gift card program) too. Information on this new program will be shared with you shortly – it’s an exciting time to be a Janer!
A few important reminders:
-
Morning Drop Off - I’m calling 7th and 8th Grade parents out! You are causing traffic behind you when you stop in front of the Bennett Building/Father Farrell Hall to let your middle schooler out of the car. Please pull all the way to the STOP sign where Mrs. Azzalina and I are standing. Also, it is very helpful for our traffic that as soon as EVERYONE comes to a full and complete stop in the drop off line, please have your children exit your car – ALWAYS on the right, NEVER INTO THE STREET!!!
-
If you need to get out of your car to assist your child in any way, you need to park your car (across the street or in the FFH parking lot) and walk them in. Stopping your car on Washington Blvd. and letting your child out is causing traffic during our morning drop off. We are really trying to eliminate that. Thank you for your cooperation.
-
NOTE: The buses have the right of way. Please do NOT pull out quickly/sharply into the oncoming traffic. DO NOT stop by the cones in front of the school. That is for the buses only! We need to keep the front of the school open for unloading of the buses. (Did you know that we have 15 buses dropping off and picking daily?)
-
HAIR! A few of our young men got wonderful stylish and handsome haircuts. THANK YOU! If we cannot see the eyebrows, or the hair is touching the back of the collar of their shirts, please schedule a haircut this week. Thank you.
-
Again, please check the length of the skirts and shorts. There are few young ladies that have skirts way too short for a Catholic School. Unfortunately, I do not have any sewing skills, but please call me anytime, I will assist you in getting a longer skirt from the Used Uniform Showroom.

Dear Janer Families,
And just like that, it’s September! Welcome back to the 2022-2023 school year. We are blessed to have each and every one of you as part of the Janer family! We love you all!
This week began in a beautiful way at Mass with Msgr. Radocha. He prepared us to begin our new school year with a fresh perspective, a clean slate and an open heart.
Busing is always an issue, but it has been especially challenging this school year. I appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding, but especially for JV1 and J51 Easton bus riders, Nazareth and Bethlehem bus riders, and our one student on the Bangor Bus. I’ve been in contact with each of the busing companies and hopefully, things will improve soon.
A few important reminders:
-
Morning Drop Off - ALL PARENTS (this includes our 7th and 8th grade parents too!) Please stop at the yellow cone with the STOP SIGN. Please do NOT stop in front of FFH, come to where the STOP sign is in the cone located next to the big tree at the beginning of the fence. As soon as you come to a full and complete stop in the drop off line, please have your children exit your car – always on the right, NEVER INTO THE STREET!!! NOTE: The buses have the right of way!! Please do not pull out quickly/sharply into the oncoming traffic. We need to keep the front of the school open for unloading of the buses. (Did you know that we have 15 buses dropping off and picking daily?)
-
HAIR! I guess the boys’ summer hairstyle was to grow your hair to your nose?? Please take this weekend to trim up hair so we can see those handsome faces. Thank you to all the parents of the young ladies who got the hair color back to their natural color! I greatly appreciate the respectfulness of appropriate Catholic school hairstyles.
-
Thank you for making sure all the children have the proper sneakers, shoes, appropriate length skirts.

Lunch is back in Cafeteria!
The children are really enjoying their time back in the cafeteria. We would appreciate it if you could pack what they like to eat…so many of our children are throwing away full sandwiches because “they don’t like it.” Also, we are in need of disposable utensils…so many of our students are looking for forks and spoons, we have depleted our supply already. If anyone would like to donate plastic utensils, send them to school to my attention. VERY IMPORTANT: please pack a small tea towel/placemat and napkins for your child each day. Thank you!
Lunch Monitors
As mentioned earlier, we are returning to the cafeteria. With that being said we need volunteers to assist. You can access the sign up genius from our webpage or simply use this sign up genius link to assist in any way you can. Thank you so much! OCTOBER DATES ARE POSTED.

CYO Trick Tray
We are thrilled to be able to bring back one of the highlights of back to school for our children in
our original venue – Father Farrell Hall. On behalf of the St. Jane’s CYO, we are appealing to
you to take part in our annual Tricky Tray (Chinese Auction) scheduled for Friday and Saturday,
September 16th and 17th, 2022. ALL STUDENTS FROM PRESCHOOL THROUGH 8TH GRADE ATTEND THIS EVENT ON FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 16, 2022.
The St. Jane’s Catholic Youth Organization is responsible for many of the extracurricular
activities offered for all the children of our parish. These activities range from Academic Bowl
and Declamation (aka Speech and Debate) to the numerous sporting activities our children participate in. It is with your generous support that we can raise the funds needed to continue these activities and, in turn, enrich the lives of our children while keeping costs and registration fees down for our parents. We are asking for a donation in the form of a gift, gift basket filled with goodies or a gift certificate to a local restaurant, store or movie theater. If you prefer to make a cash donation we will purchase a gift to be raffled off on your behalf or combine it with other cash donations to purchase a prize for the large prize table. Tickets to sporting events are also a great prize. All donations are fully tax deductible.
Please find the Tricky Tray attachments to this file. Make sure your child has even a small amount of tickets so they can participate in Tricky Tray. Nothing breaks our hearts more than when we see a little one not have tickets to participate. Thank you for your support.

Dear Janer Families,
Happy August! Only 27 days and we will be back in action! I have seen all the wonderful pictures on social media of everyone enjoying their summer. Thank you for sharing your photos with me so I can share them on our social media pages. If you have any pictures you would like me to include, please email them to me at [email protected]. It didn’t feel right to share your photos if you didn’t send them to me, but I loved seeing all those smiling faces and adventures everyone was on this past summer!
A few important things as you prepare to return to school.
-
I have attached the school supply list for your convenience. School purchased supplies will be billed directly through FACTS.
-
UNIFORMS – School dress code will be enforced. Please see the Student Handbook for a refresher.
-
Sneakers may ONLY be white or black (solid if possible, but I will allow a colored logo). No gray sneakers.
-
Shoes need to be sturdy - brown or black. I recommended tied or velcro shoes. With the playground use, we want to make sure our children are safe.
-
Hair must be natural color. Please make sure the red, pink, blue, green, and purple, etc. hues are cut or dyed out of hair prior to August 29, 2022. Thank you.
-
No acrylic or colored nails allowed (ever!) Natural or clear color polish, and cleaned manicured nails are encouraged.
-
Jewelry needs to be kept to post earrings for girls (No earrings are allowed for our male students) and one necklace of religious nature (cross or saint) and no bracelets. This is a safety issue.
-
-
Water bottles are only allowed to be kept on the student’s desk with a doctor’s note or principal’s permission. Water bottles can only have water – NO gatorade, juice, etc. unless there is a documented reason. Otherwise, water bottles must be kept in the student’s school bag, lunchbox or a designated area in the classroom.
-
Smart watches are ONLY allowed for medical reasons and with the principal’s permission.
-
Cell Phones: Grades 6-7-8 need to place theirs in the classroom pocket chart upon entering the classroom. All other grades must keep their cell phones turned off in their backpacks. Students may not use them during the school day. If a child needs to contact their parents, they will be permitted to use the classroom/office telephone.
-
A small birthday treat for class at snack time is allowed – NO ordering pizzas, elaborate snacks, or passing out goodie bags. See parent handbook under Parties.
-
Lunch will be returning to the Cafeteria. We will need 4 volunteers daily from 10:45 to 12:45. If interested, please email me. There is a stipend for your service.
-
There will be more information to come…
-
Used uniform sales coming soon. Dates TBD.
-
Homeroom assignments will be posted on FACTS Student Information System by the week of August 22, 2022. No changes will be made.
Remember, questions regarding school policies, uniforms, dates, etc. are best addressed to me through email versus posting your questions on Facebook…I don’t always catch your questions or concerns and I would rather answer you directly. Thank you. [email protected]
Personnel Changes:
With the retirement of Miss East at the end of 2022, we had some movement among our faculty. I am excited to announce that Mrs. Julie Darno will be taking over the 8B homeroom. She will be assisting our 8th graders on their journey to full initiation into the Catholic faith through the Sacrament of Confirmation. She will be teaching eighth grade Religion and will be assuming the reading instruction for both our 7th and 8th graders! Thank you, Mrs. Darno, how blessed our students are to have you as their teacher.
Last week, Miss Morris informed me that she has taken a position at Lincoln Leadership Academy in Allentown. I cannot say enough wonderful things about Miss Morris. Her initial school year was 2020 at the height of COVID and she moved her classroom twice, and taught virtually, and she did it seamlessly. Taking on 8th grade last year, she did an amazing job with Literature and Science, and she will be missed by all! I want to wish her all the best!
With such another large void to fill and such an important year, I was a bit distraught last week. But I am a firm believer, when God hands you lemons, you need to get busy and figure something out quickly…lemonade? I turned to Mr. Dicker. Mr. Dicker has been Dean of Students since 2020 (at the height of COVID as well). He has been a stabilizing force for me, personally, but also for our faculty, who know that in a pinch, he will be there to assist in any way he can. I have asked Mr. Dicker to take the 8th grade position! He has accepted and is excited to be back in the classroom and to continue to assist me as Dean of Students. Mr. Dicker has a Bachelor's degree in History from Penn State, so he will be teaching history to our 8th graders (and participating in National History Day) and Science to 7th and 8th. He’s excited to enter our middle school students in the PJAS (Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science Fair with the hopes of becoming a finalist at his beloved Penn State – stay tuned!)
As Dean of Students, Mr. Dicker will continue to implement our school’s behavior management rules, address discipline issues as they arise, maintain our discipline records, and continue to act as our Safety Coordinator – planning fire/evacuation drills and ALICE instructor with my assistance. Please join me in congratulating Mr. Dicker on his new endeavor!
We also had a change in 6th grade. Miss Berkheimer who joined us in January will be moving to the vacancy left by Mrs. Darno in 2A. Miss Berkheimer was previously a 2nd grade teacher at St. Thomas More School in Allentown and is looking forward to preparing our students for their sacraments of Reconciliation and First Holy Communion! Congratulations, Miss Berkheimer, and welcome back to 2nd grade!
For the vacancy in 6th grade, we have added a wonderful new addition to our family, Miss Elizabeth Castro. Miss Castro is an active member of St. Joseph the Worker Parish in Orefield. She recently graduated from Franciscan University, Steubenville with a degree in Education. She is so excited to have her first teaching experience here at St. Jane School. She cannot wait to foster a positive learning environment where students are comfortable and find opportunities to grow. She will be teaching language arts with Mrs. Pizzuto, Math, Social Studies, and Religion. We are so happy to have you join our family, Miss Castro!
On a sad note, Mrs. Pastrick has resigned. She was an amazing teacher, and did a wonderful job with our 4th graders last year. It was a tough decision to leave us. We will miss her very much and appreciate all that she did for our students! Thank you, Mrs. Pastrick.
To complete our family in 4th grade, Miss Amy Brennan, formerly of Notre Dame High School Aquinas Program, has decided to come back to her roots and return to 4th grade. Miss Brennan has over 10 years experience in the Diocese of Allentown and previously taught 4th grade at St. Ann in Emmaus. Miss Brennan has a degree in special education and her Masters degree from DeSales University. She is an active member of St. Anne Bethlehem parish acting as their Director of Religious Education for the past few years. Miss Brennan is so happy to be a part of our wonderful community and we are so excited to have her!
Finally, Mrs. Carolyn Roman, our beloved Spanish teacher last year, has resigned so she can concentrate on working at her home parish of Holy Infancy, and to work more closely with the students and faculty there. We will miss her, but we know she is doing God’s work at Holy Infancy. We wish her all the best.
Mrs. Criseida Acuna will be joining our family as a Spanish teacher. Mrs. Acuna has children at Holy Family School where she is an active parishioner. In addition to teaching at St. Jane School two days a week, Mrs. Acuna will also be the Spanish teacher at St. Ann Emmaus three days a week. We are thrilled to continue learning the fundamentals of the Spanish language. She will be continuing the work of two very accomplished teachers, Senora Rosado and Senora Roman. We have been very blessed.
For your convenience, I have attached a current list of our faculty as…say a few prayers…I’m not really fond of lemonade, I’m more of an unsweetened ice tea type of gal…LOL!
Joyfully yours,
Marybeth Okula
A regulated dress code affects a certain calming influence over the behavior and actions of the students. Parents are asked to encourage proper school grooming and to see that their children abide by this dress code.
