Parents
September 20, 2023
Dear Parents,
We conducted our first successful fire drill yesterday. The main building (1900 Washington) evacuated the premises in 93 seconds. The middle school/gym/cafeteria building (1922 Washington) evacuated safely in just over one minute. Students were respectful, responsible and safe at all times during the drill. We appreciate your children’s attention to this matter.

Dear Parents,
Yesterday, as a school, we honored all those who lost their lives on 9/11/01. A special memorial flag had been donated to the school from The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (from my husband Mark) and we raised this flag in a short prayer service. Thank you to Nicholas McLean who honored us by raising the flag (Nicholas is a candidate for Eagle Scout). We were all so proud to be together, offer a moment of silence and pray for all first responders, military, and families affected by this tragedy 22 years ago.
Join us at our HSA Open House TONIGHT, Tuesday, September 12th @ 6:30pm! Meet your HSA Executive Board & Chairpersons, learn how to get involved, and win some door prizes. Light refreshments will be served. We hope to see you tonight at 6:30pm in Father Farrell Hall (the cafeteria)! Flyer is attached.

Dear Parents,
I understand some buses are still not on an acceptable schedule. I’ve reached out to Easton Transportation, I’m praying we see improvement soon. Please be kind to our drivers, it’s not entirely their fault. They are very good to our students. Keep in mind you represent St. Jane School, please behave accordingly. Thank you.
Tomorrow night at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 6, 2023, is our annual Back to School Night for grades 1 to 5 only. This is a parent meeting, children should be left home, but if you are in a bind, they should have something quiet to do during the meeting. The meeting begins promptly at 6:30 p.m. I will speak for a few minutes, and then we will be sending everyone off to their youngest child’s homeroom first for a 15 minute meeting. I will come on the intercom and send you to your next child. If you have three children in grades 1 to 5, let me know, and I will alert the teacher. This is strictly an informational meeting; I ask that you refrain from making it a parent-teacher conference. Those are scheduled for October 23 and October 24.

Dear Parents,
At 10:00 a.m. Mass this past Sunday, the recessional hymn was so fitting for the beginning of a new school year, “We are pilgrim people, we are the Church of God. A family of believers, disciples of the Lord. United in one spirit, ignited by the fire, still burning through the ages, still present in our lives.” We are a blessed community of faith, with families with strong values and morals that want only the very best for their children. I am so honored to be starting my 9th year as principal of St. Jane School. My heart is exploding with love and the abundant blessings that I have received as being a member of this faith-filled community. We are all united in one spirit! We are all blessed! Please keep your children’s faith alive with weekly attendance at Sunday Mass. I was so happy to see 25 Janers at 10:00 a.m. Mass on Sunday, hopefully as we get into the swing this school year, we will see more and more of our Janers who are disciples of the Lord at Sunday Mass!
So far so good! Our students are so happy to be back in the routine of school, and we are happy to see them daily. We really do miss them over the summer!
A word about busing. According to Pennsylvania Law, nonpublic school children are entitled to transportation to nonpublic schools. With that being said, it’s not always easy for the nonpublic schools to work with the public school transportation departments. While I realize that Easton Transportation changed their system this year and it has caused us all some discomfort, I want to speak about the nice drivers that we are assigned. Each and everyone of our drivers are kind and considerate and work in partnership with me on all busing issues. I know we have had a rough start, but overall, I feel like our students are transported to and from school safely each day, and that says a lot. Please continue to be patient. Hopefully, after this first week of hiccups, things will get on track. Bethlehem riders, I got you too. I will see what happened with the bus this morning. I can’t imagine. (Bethlehem has great drivers too!)

If wearing a jumper or kilt = green knee socks, brown or black leather shoes, white blouse. No sneakers with jumper or kilt.
If wearing khaki pants = socks that are above the ankle in tan, black or white; brown or black leather shoes, golf shirt. No sneakers if wearing pants.
If wearing gym uniform (in Kindergarten or gym days) = black Flynn and O’Hara shorts with our logo; HawkWalk t-shirt or new gray t-shirt from Flynn and O’Hara with our logo or the green t-shirt from Flynn and O'Hara with our logo (must be in good condition).
If you choose to wear sweat pants = must be the Flynn and O’Hara green sweats with our logo or the Flynn and O’Hara gray sweats (must be in good condition and the right length)
If you choose to wear sweatshirt = must be the green Flynn and O’Hara crew neck sweatshirt with our logo or you may wear the gray Flynn and O’Hara crew new sweatshirt with our logo.
The following shoes are NOT permitted: Hey Dude shoes, moccasins, crocs, sandals, flip flops or slides. Thank you for your cooperation.

Extended Care
Please note, we have hired some new workers for Extended Care. Mrs. Peggy McFadden, who is a lecturer at our Parish; we also hired Jeanne Fultz, a lecturer and Eucharistic Minister at our Parish. Mrs. Hiroe Cartier and Mrs. Jackie Vreeland are returning this year. Miss Johnstone will only be subbing, along with me when needed. Please be prepared to show ID when picking up your child from extended care until Mrs. McFadden and Mrs. Fultz get to know you. They are both wonderful and I know your children are in good hands with our entire Extended Care Staff.
Lunch Monitors
HELP! We need at least 3 parents in the cafeteria for lunch coverage on all full days of school. Lunch monitors work from 10:55 to 12:40 daily. It goes quickly and for the safety of our students, we need a minimum of 3 adults at all times. Please sign up using Sign Up Genius - this is for September. I will be dates for October through the end of the year shortly. Please note: if you are signed up, we are counting on you to help, if you cannot make it, please try to find a replacement or at least email me so I make sure that there is enough coverage for our students’ safety. Thank you.

Hot Lunch
If ordering hot lunch, you must order the Friday before for the week ahead. (I usually order for the whole month to make it easier.) If your child is absent there are no refunds. We can hold your child’s lunch until they return and send it home with them. The lunch microwave is very good.
Please use this link to order the food. https://www.fdmealplanner.com/#allentown
Please send cash or check payable to Whitsons School Nutrition as soon as you place the order.
IMPORTANT: IF YOUR CHILD FORGOT HIS/HER LUNCH, WE DO NOT HAVE FOOD TO GIVE THEM HERE. THE FOOD IS PREPARED OFFSITE.

August 14, 2023
Dear Parents,
We are two weeks away from the first day of school! Summer flew by! It was a fun one. I saw many pictures of your wonderful vacations to some really great places. I hope everyone recharged and is ready for another great year. We are getting ready to welcome all of our students for the 2023-2024 school year. As you prepare for the new year, I am attaching the supply list of items to be purchased elsewhere. I am also including some important information that should be reviewed and if possible, turned in on the first day of school. Thank you.
Parent Survey
St. Jane Frances de Chantal participates in several Federal programs that provide your children with a variety of materials and services. It is one of the few ways in which they receive benefits from your tax dollars and we certainly don't want to lose this benefit. Please review the enclosed survey and simply answer Yes or No to the questions. This information is very important for us to continue receiving support from these programs. It is required before we can participate in Federal programs. All information will be kept in confidence.
Please return the form by Friday, September 8, 2023. Don't hesitate to call us if you have any questions about the survey. Thank you for your assistance.
UNIFORM INFORMATION
Hair color / length
Please remove all unnatural colors and have appropriate haircuts before school begins. This means bangs should be above the eyebrows and away from the face. Girls hair should always be neatly styled. Boys’ hair length must be above the collar on the golf shirts. Please note: anyone who had their hair highlighted/colored should only be of the same and natural color of the child’s original color hair. No red, blues, purples, pinks, yellow, green, etc. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Nail Polish
Please make sure that all nails are cleaned and trimmed. Remember that only clear nail polish is allowed during school days. No fake nails allowed. Exceptions will be only allowed through PBIS school store.
Gym Uniforms, Casual Days, Sneakers and Hoodies for 2023-2024
Flynn and O’Hara are no longer carrying the grey gym sweats for St. Jane School. We have updated the gym uniform to green sweats, same black gym shorts (fingertip length for all!!) and a grey gym shirt with our logo. The Used uniform store will NOT accept or be selling any used gym uniforms that are grey sweats and green t-shirts. If you have gray sweats that are NOT stained or ripped and fit nicely on your child, they may wear the grays for the upcoming school year, but our goal is to have everyone in the same gym uniform by Fall 2024. (The HawkWalk t-shirts can also be worn for gym days as well as the HawkWalk headbands.)
Casual Days
Short shorts are never permitted. If your t-shirt is longer than or the same length as your shorts, you are in violation of the dress code. Be prepared, parents. In the 2023-2024 school year, you will be called to bring a change of clothes for any child who is wearing short skirts or short shorts. It is NOT acceptable to wear it at St. Jane School. I hope this is clear for everyone!
Sneakers are ALL WHITE for 2023 and beyond!
Thank you to the parents that checked in with me regarding the sneakers. I was out shopping just the other day, and I have seen plenty of shoes that are solid white. Get them before they run out! Just a reminder that anyone wearing sneakers with the gym or summer uniform, we are only allowing ALL white soles and white sneakers only! Exceptions will be only allowed through PBIS school store. If wearing shoes with the regular school uniform, shoes should be safe tie, leather shoes or styles that stay on feet. They should be brown or black shoes only. The following shoes are NOT permitted: Hey Dude shoes, moccasins, crocs, sandals, flip flops or slides. Thank you for your understanding.
St. Jane Hawk Hoodies
Hoodies will NO longer be part of the school uniform. What does this mean? The St. Jane Hawk Hoodies cannot be worn during school hours in the classroom. They may be worn to and from school as outerwear (as all hoodies are meant to be worn), but are not allowed to be worn in the classrooms, hallways, gym, chapel, etc. Exceptions will be only allowed through PBIS school store. As an alternative option for students that feel chilly during the school day, children may wear school sweaters (Flynn and O’Hara) or you may purchase the brand new ¾ zip pullover from Flynn & O’Hara. Long sleeve golf shirts are also available to purchase.

A regulated dress code affects a certain calming influence over the behavior and actions of the students. Parents are asked to encourage proper school grooming and to see that their children abide by this dress code.

Sneakers are going back to ALL WHITE. I tried to be sympathetic during COVID and the supply chain issues. I tried to be reasonable about having students also wear black or grey sneakers, but honestly, students and sneakers for that matter, run the gamut with all the different variations of colors. White soles and white sneakers only! We want to return to those wonderful Pre-COVID days and everyone will need to find SOLID white sneakers. In addition, shoes should be safe tie shoes, leather shoes not Hey Dude shoes, NO moccassins no crocs, no sandals, no flip flops or slides – brown or black shoes only. If you need further clarification, please reach out, I am more than happy to explain further.
Hoodies: As mentioned in my newsletter regarding uniforms dated 10/18/22 and 10/31/22 - Hoodies will no longer be part of the school uniform. What does this mean? They cannot be worn during school hours. They may be worn to and from school (as all hoodies are meant to be worn), but are not allowed to be worn in the classrooms, hallways, gym, chapel, etc. As an alternative option for students that feel chilly during the school day, children may wear school sweaters (Flynn and O’Hara) or you may purchase the brand new ¾ zip pullover from Flynn & O’Hara.
